Group Program

GROUP ACTIVITIES

At Milparinka, we don’t focus on growth for the sake of it. Instead, we believe we can make a more meaningful difference in people’s lives when we truly know them and stay connected. This approach allows us to focus on each person as an individual and encourages ongoing conversations about what’s possible and what more can be achieved.

Our Group Supports exist to provide people with opportunity for relationship and communication development and opportunity for growth. Our starting point is always “getting to know people well” and then bringing them together with likeminded people who share common interests and goals.

Each group develops its own timetable based on these shared interests, with a strong focus on choice, independence, and control.

We don’t offer a set menu of activities. Instead, we begin by asking, “What’s important to you?” and “What would you like from Milparinka?”

Our supports are always evolving. Activities and approaches change as we build relationships and learn more about each person. This happens through genuine connection, spending time together, and more formally through a Person-Centred Planning process.

There are a number of considerations that we apply when we are providing groups activities:

Supporting people in their local communities

Wherever possible, we help people access supports and activities in their own local area, using the same community resources available to everyone.

Your choices and goals come first

Participants, families, and carers are at the heart of everything we do. Their goals and preferences shape each program.

Taking the time to understand you

We work alongside you and your family to imagine what a great future could look like. This includes helping you clarify your ambitions and thinking together about the best ways to pursue them.

Offering a wide range of opportunities

People thrive when they have choices. We increase these options by building strong connections with a variety of community organisations—both disability specific and mainstream—so participants have more opportunities available to them.

Learning in different environments

We support people to build skills and confidence across a variety of settings, experiences, and activities.

Working together

Many participants use more than one service. With your permission, we collaborate with other supports—such as case managers, recreation programs or residential staff—to create a more coordinated and effective support system.

Respecting your culture, values and beliefs

We support your right to express your culture and identity. Whenever possible, we adapt our practices to reflect your values, diversity and beliefs.

Meaningful community participation

Our goal is genuine inclusion—being part of the community, not just accessing it. We focus on real connection and participation.
